The cultural programme at Aparaaditehas is coordinated by NGO Aparaaditehas.

Aparaaditehas is located at the corner of Riia and Kastani streets in the Vaksali district of Tartu, about a 10-minute walk from the railway station and the city centre. This former industrial complex has evolved into a unique cultural hub, home to creative businesses, artists, galleries, cafés and restaurants. As the Aparaaditehas quarter has expanded across several addresses, it’s worth checking the exact location of your destination before visiting.

At the heart of Aparaaditehas is its courtyard, Taskupark, a welcoming retreat from the bustle of the city and a pleasant place to spend time. In addition to Taskupark, the quarter is home to more than 60 creative businesses, including galleries, studios, shops, restaurants and cafés. The Aparaaditehas Festival, Gallery Nights, Open Studios Days, and numerous markets and fairs attract tens of thousands of visitors to the quarter every year.

How to get here

Aparaaditehas’s main building is located at Kastani 42, on the corner of Riia and Kastani streets. The courtyard, known as Taskupark, can be accessed from two entrances: through entrance no. 1 on Riia Street or through the passageway from Kastani Street.

The quarter has expanded into nearby former industrial buildings. TYPA Centre is located at Kastani 48f, while Köömen, Sõõr and some of Tartu Art School’s classrooms are at Kastani 50. Before visiting, check which building your destination is in.

By public transport

The Pauluse bus stop is located right outside the building on Riia Street. City bus routes 1, 2, 8, 10, 11 and 12 stop here, as do Lux Express Tallinn–Tartu express buses. The nearest stop on Kastani Street is Riia, about 50 metres away, served by bus route 10.

The railway station is 750 metres away, approximately an 11-minute walk. The bus station is 1.5 km away, approximately a 20-minute walk.

By bicycle

Aparaaditehas is easy to reach by bicycle or other light mobility device. Bicycle parking is available both in the courtyard and on Kastani Street. The Tartu Smart Bike Share station “Aparaaditehas” is located directly outside the building on Kastani Street.

Parking

There are limited parking spaces around the quarter, and they fill up quickly during the day. For larger events, we recommend arriving on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. Parking areas and time restrictions are marked on the map.

Accessibility

Aparaaditehas is housed in a historic industrial complex, which means that accessibility varies across different parts of the buildings. We are continually working to make our spaces and events as accessible as possible, improving our facilities and solutions step by step.

  • Entrances: There are no automatic doors. For assistance with opening doors, please call +372 5667 4704.
  • Lifts: Lifts are available in Buildings I and II. A tenant access chip is required to use them.
  • Accessible toilets: Accessible toilets are available in three locations. The toilet next to Armastuse Saal is not at street level.
  • Accessibility features: Tactile guidance paths, Braille signage and induction loops are not available.
  • Guide and assistance dogs: Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.

Accessibility at events depends on the venue. Where possible, we provide information about accessibility arrangements on each event page, including whether audio description, sign language interpretation or speech-to-text interpreting is available.
